Sinusitis is an inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses that are caused when germs grow and cause an infection which leads to sinusitis. Healthy sinuses are filled with air, but when blocked, sinusitis can occur. As simple as a common cold, to as serious as a deviated septum, can cause sinusitis.
There are a few levels of sinusitis. The terms that we may use here at Rontal Clinic are acute, subacute, chronic inflammation, and recurrent sinusitis. Acute sinusitis feels like the common cold and then can last for 2-4 weeks. Subacute sinus inflammation is an extended period of time, ranging from 4 to 12 weeks. At the 12 week mark, sinusitis becomes chronic. If sinusitis occurs more than once a year, it is recurrent sinusitis.
The Rontal Clinic sees many cases of sinusitis; over 35 million Americans get sinusitis a year. We will get you back in action!
